Amponsem II, has denied the allegation levelled against him by the
management of Sunyani Senior High (SUSEC) and the Old Students
Association (SOSA) that he has sold out some lands which belong to the
school.
On May 13, the Old Students Association led the students to
demonstrate and register their displeasure about the encroachment of
the school land.
Some of the inscriptions on the placards carried by the students read:
“Don’t Sell Our Lands, Sunyani Krontihene.”
However, Nana Bofotia Boa Amponsem II in a press briefing in Sunyani
said, “The brutal truth is that the entire land on which Sunyani
Senior High School is situated is for 4 families, namely: Nana
Sunyanihene’s family, Krontihene’s family, Tuntumhene’s family and
Dwaatoahene family’s ancestral lands of which the Government of Ghana,
both past and present had neither paid any compensation to our
predecessors/ancestors nor us. I have personally never sold or even
made my mind to sell any portion of the School’s land to any person,
body or institution.”
He said the publication on the placards of the SOSA demonstrators to
the extent that he is selling Sunyani Senior High School’s land was
palpably false and there was no iota of truth in that publication.
“I find this serious allegation against me by the SOSA demonstrators
that i was indiscriminately selling the School lands as a sharp and
cynical attack on my personality and the traditional/customary
position that I hold in Sunyani.”
According to him, the encroachers on the lands are not ghosts or
angels but are living and could be ascertained or identified.
“I therefore require an immediate public retraction of the information
on the placards that portrayed me as the one selling School lands and
above all, an unqualified apology from the organizers of the
demonstration for the terminal injury caused to my reputation and the
Stool that I currently occupy.”
The Sunyani Krontihene has giving the organizers of the demonstration
up to Friday, May 22nd to prove that his the one selling the school’s
land, and he will abrocate his position as Krontihene of the Sunyani
Traditional Council if they are able to do so.
