There has been public outcry regarding the poor standard of education in Ghana.

The falling standard of education shouldn’t be blamed only on the government but also on the attitudes of some teachers.

Lack of time management in public schools is one of the major factors of poor academic performance in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region and the whole country as well.

Mrs Agnes Mwaawaaru, the Jirapa Municipal Director of Education said this during a Time and Productivity Management seminar for about 900 teachers in the Jirapa Municipality.

The three (3) day programme was under the theme; “Time management, a critical tool for productivity and professional development”.

The aim of the program is to empower teachers in a professional manner.

Mrs Agnes Mwaawaaru urged teachers to desist from any negative behaviours such as teachers attending to bars, lotto kiosks, game centres among others during instructional hours while the pupils are in the classrooms without a teacher.

Mr Richard Dery, Head of Supervision, in an interview with Newshuntermag.com‘s Mark Asante, revealed that in the Jirapa Municipality, most of the teachers report to school after 8 am and that is very bad.

He said teachers should use their time productively.

Their attitudes towards time should change from now after this special seminar.

Mr James Ziekye, the CEO of Global Life Changers, added that poor time management is the main contributing factor to the falling standard of education.

He mentioned that most teachers do not spend their right contract hours with children in schools.

Mr Ziekye further stated that it’s embezzlement for teachers to spend time school hours for their private activities.

The programme was organized by the Jirapa Municipal Education Directorate in collaboration with Foundation for Global Life Changers.
