Several Musicians Join MUSIGA Because They Want To Travel – Edem Reveals

Acclaimed Ghanaian rapper Edem has made a revelation about why some artists apply to join the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

According to him, the union has strayed from its core purpose of representing the interests of musicians and building a resourceful music industry.

Speaking to Giovanni on 3FM Drive, he disclosed that most people now join the union due to their intentions to travel, saying, “MUSIGA membership, mostly people take that membership because they want to travel abroad. You get the card so when you get to the embassy, you will not talk plenty. Aside that, there is nothing you really do,” he revealed.

While congratulating elected President Bessa Simons, Edem expressed skepticism about the prospects of the union.

“Congratulations Uncle Bessa. If the institution has been there for years from Sidiku Buari to Diana Hopeson, I can’t also undermine some of the things they’ve done but I’m saying that once MUSIGA is not run as a business, I don’t think it will thrive,” he said.

MUSIGA has in the past few years received public criticism on multiple occasions. Edem adds to the tall list of musicians whose interests in the union have waned.
