The MP for Bongo, Mr. Edward Bawa has levelled
serious allegations against the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye.

Speaking in an interview on Ark FM in the
morning Thursday, which was aired from the Parliament House prior to the
President’s Second State Of The Nation Address, Mr. Bawa stated that the
Speaker of Parliament presumes the Parliament to be his personal asset, thus
tells who should speak or shouldn’t.

He further said that the Speaker does not
recognize them-the minority – as Members of Parliament representing a number of
Ghanaians but rather as his little children therefore, his words are the
ultimate in all parliamentary functions.

He went ahead to claim that the speaker
demonstrates paternalistic style of leadership and if that should be the case,
the voices of about 44% of Ghanaians who voted for the 106 minority Members of
Parliament have been shattered.

In the mid point of his speech, he stated
that ‘‘If you won’t let us speak, take your Parliament’’ with aggressive
emotional attachment as he referred to the Speaker of Parliament, indicating
that the minority is sick and tired of the behaviour of the Speaker.

In the latter part of his speech, he
mentioned that the speaker has deviated from the right patterns of conduct laid
down by the past speakers since our democratic dispensation and concluded that
the minority would do whatever necessary to make their
views heard.
