Ahafo Media Awards 2018: Criteria For Nominations Released

The organisers of Ahafo Media Awards have released the criteria for nominations into the 2018 edition.

A press statement copied to the News Hunter Magazine detailed the criteria for the award scheme.

Radio Personalities and Programs that fit the under-listed criteria within the eligibility year of 6th  November 2017 – 16th October 2018

The Awards and Criteria are as follows:
RADIO PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR 
The individual must possess some or all the following traits which set them apart from their peers and keep audiences ears glued to their radios;

Applicant must have undertaken any social or public event/project beside radio work.
Must consistently present content in an articulate manner.

Presenter must present content which is informative and educative to the audience.
Presenter should inspire citizens to go out and make positive impact on the society.

Presenter should have good presentation skills. The analysis of complex matters should be handled expertly so the layman can understand.

Presenter should deliver research and investigations in an entertaining and simplistic manner.
Vitally, Presenter must be capable of handling interviews with ease and class
Control of panel discussion (if any)

Good interviewing skills.
MORNING SHOW PROGRAMME OF THE YEAR

The judges will be looking for a show that captures the energy and essence of its target market both geographically and demographically. 

Morning radio can often sound the same in many markets, so the judges will look for style, content and presentation that is original, creative, exciting and enticing.

Morning radio is often about team-broadcasting, and judges will, therefore, pay special attention to how the team blends together and plays off one another.

Using radio to educate, inform and mobilize action on the nation’s most pressing issues and creating a platform for the discussion of pertinent issues and intellectual discourse

Fairly represents opposing or contrasting sides of an issue and provides perspective and context to different views
MORNING SHOW HOST OF THE YEAR

Distinctness of personality and style
Effectiveness of delivery (use of right words and phrases, persuasiveness, authority, etc.)
Grasp of the subject matter
Balance and fairness
Fairly represents opposing or contrasting sides of an issue and provides perspective and context to different views
Observes ethical and professional standards for the broadcast media
Control of panel discussion.
SPORTS PROGRAMME OF THE YEAR

This award is to showcase those shows that take pride in community sport, from live coverage of sports matches or events, to coverage of niche sports that are underrepresented in the mainstream media.Promotes the sports events,Presentation skills,Qualitative standards of coverage of the sports events,Demonstrates creativity and excellence in production,Observes ethical and professional standards for the broadcast media

NEWSCASTER OF THE YEAR

Reflects the interests of the community in its entirety and covers a broad range of topics relevant to the community
Demonstrates balance and fairness in its treatment of the news, shows multiple viewpoints, and avoids bias
Provides depth and context to its news stories
Demonstrates enterprise in getting the news and relies on multiple sources for news stories
Demonstrates creativity and excellence in production
Wholesomeness of appearance and language
ENTERTAINMENT SHOW OF THE YEAR

This award is designed to showcase those shows that really engage and entertain their audience. No matter the time of day or what else is going on, the Entertainment Show has to cut through and really capture and engage with listeners.

Personality and character
Presentation skills
DEVELOPMENTAL/EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME OF THE YEAR

The programme must informs and educates the audience
Promotes values which contribute to positive social change
Demonstrates creativity and excellence in the production of its programs
Deals with issues of significant interest to the community
The ability to produce shows which inspire the public to go out and play a positive role in the society
Presents materials which are of informational, educational and moral values.
BRUNCH/MID-MORNING SHOW OF THE YEAR

Demonstrates creativity and excellence in production
Provides the audience with the means for better understanding of issues and events
Presents materials which are of informational, educational and moral values
Observes ethical and professional standards for the broadcast media
RADIO DJ OF THE YEAR

Show in-depth knowledge in music
He must informs and educates as much as it entertain the audience
Not be known to play profane songs on air
Provides proper context and balance in his presentation
Demonstrates creativity and excellence in production
Possesses a unique quality that makes it easy to recall
Consistent on air
The ability to craft, produce and present shows that hold the audience captivated and leave them ‘wanting more.’
MEDIA ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR

This award will be presented to the overall best Media or Broadcasting organization in the year under review. This is (AMe’18 ) most prestigious award for organizations. The Media organization must be the driving force for social change in the year under review. The organization must be top of mind when issues regarding society are discussed. The organization must be a well-oiled machine that creates opportunities for Ghanaians to express their views. They must have championed social interventions and created a conducive and positive environment for its workers.

Promotes wholesome values at the same time ability to engage its audience
Demonstrates creativity and excellence in production
Adheres to the highest standards in his presentation
Good communication skills
NON CATEGORY AWARDS
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The AMe Awards Lifetime Achievement Award is given to prominent senior individuals who have held key positions in the broadcast media or in related fields. To qualify for the award, an individual must have:
Significantly contributed/contributing immensely to the advancement of the broadcast media
Consistently demonstrated a high standard of excellence and professionalism in his or her work.

SOCIAL & GENDER AWARD 

This award will go to the Media House or Practitioner who has done the most work on social and gender issues. The provision of education, social change dynamics and leveraging on the UN development goals to effect change are considered as part of the criteria to win this award.
ENVIRONMENT AWARD

This award will go to the practitioner who has done the most outstanding work on environmental issues; providing education, and pushing for action on pressing environmental issues.
