Astute Female Sports Presenter, Princess Nafisah, has called on the government of Ghana to help improve lesser known sports in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Freda Owusuaa Bio on J. Life FM in Sunyani, Princess lamented how lesser known sports are not giving much attention.

“Football dominates when it comes to sports in the country, but investment into other areas of the game will help develop the interest of the people. The government have to develop pitches and help improve lesser known sports in the country,” she stated.

According to her, sports have the potential of reducing the rising unemployment rate in the country so there is the need to invest in that sector.

Princess Nafisah, who works with Suncity Radio in Sunyani, revealed how her career began.

“I did not have interest in sports when growing up. I got to love it along the way. I started with Asta FM in Techiman as a Front Desk Executive. I was given access to the airwave later whilst on my normal duty at the front desk…and I began learning how to play songs.

“I travelled for about a year, and when I reported back to work, the Programmes Manager, told me to work with the sports team. I was inspired by a colleague and started presenting foreign stories. It was difficult but I developed the interest of doing,” she disclosed.

“I became perfect around 2008. I faced a lot of intimidation but I did not give up. Being a Sports Presenter is a male-dominated field, and society sometimes gives me a tag due to my engagement with men with regards to the work. It had an effect on me I motivated myself to continue with what I was doing. Many people thought I was ‘Tom Boy’,” Princess Nafisah added.

She urged all ladies who want to venture into such positions to be bold and resist any intimidations.

“Ladies who Present sports attract a lot of listeners for the station. It won’t be easy but cushion yourself…and work hard. One needs to a lot of research in order to succeed in this field,” she advised.
