About eight (8) Associations of Persons with Disabilities in
the Brong Ahafo region are not happy about the new directive regarding the
distribution of the common fund.
Speaking in an interview with Blockman on Storm FM’s Morning
Show ‘Perfect Storm’, the Regional Chairperson for Association of Persons With
Physical Disability, Joyce Gyamfi said they are not able to access the 2017 fund
which has been released to the District/Municipal Assemblies due to a new
guidelines from the Administrator of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
According to her, the new distribution guideline barred
farmers, traders, students, persons under 18 and persons above 60 from
benefiting.
She stated that the administrator did not consult the disability
groups before coming out with the new guidelines.
Madam Joyce Gyamfi hinted that the groups will soon embark
on a demonstration to register their displeasure.
She observed that People with Disabilities in the Brong
Ahafo region are neglected.
“We don’t take good care of disables in the region. If you
compare to other regions, education of our people here is very low. Mothers of
most children with disabilities cannot afford to put them through schools,” she
lamented.

The District Assembly Common Fund Act (DACF) 1993 stipulates
that a three percent of the fund is given to Persons with Disability to among
others, support their businesses.
