The immediate past Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. George Adjei-Henneh, has urged parents to pay greater attention to the upbringing, education and development of their children.
He said the family, as the first stage of human socialization, has a greater responsibility in shaping the future of our children, unfortunately, parents seem to have lost control of their children due to their insatiable quest for social and economic gains.
Dr. Adjei-Henneh was commenting on the recent spate of undisciplined activities in our schools, on Suncity Radio’s Tuesday Morning Show, hosted by Nana KAS.
Re-acting to recent incidents like occultism, suicides, drug abuse and other immoral behaviours in some schools in the country, the former GES Regional Director who is also the Atipimhene of Japekrom in the Jaman South District of the Brong Ahafo region, attributed the unhealthy development in our schools to systemic failure and irresponsible Teachers and Parents.
He, therefore, ruled out the re-introduction of corporal punishment, but rather, suggested the intensification of guidance programmes in schools, corrective family and church programmes, which he believes, would put the fear of God in our students and help them lead rightful ways.

Dr. Adjei-Henneh reiterated that the future of our society, depends on what happens in the classroom today, and school is the replica of society and if we still believe that the youth of today, are the future leaders then there must be concerted efforts by Parents, Teachers and government to right all the wrongs in our educational system, in order to produce responsible and disciplined citizens to transform our society for the better.
