The National Prophetic Director of the Christ Apostolic Church International, (CAC), Prophet James Awuni Seliya, has charged Christians to use their gifted resources to promote the gospel.

Speaking at the annual Independence Day Prayer Retreat for the church at Bamire in Techiman, Prophet Awuni entreated the congregation to alive to their responsibilities, especially prayers to enable them to access the blessings of God. The prayer session was under the theme: Pressing Forward for the Mark of the High Calling”.

Prophet Awuni urged Christians to be wake up from their slumber before the dark days come.

“As Christians, you must be awake from your sleep and persevere in prayers”, he told the thousands of Christians from all walks of life who gathered to pray.

According to the prophetic director, frequently in Scripture believers are exhorted to wake up, to be revived, and they are warned of the dangers of spiritual sleep.

There is that symbolic person in the book of Proverbs, the sluggard, the slothful man, and his folly is paraded before the whole world.

“Wake up you sluggard! Go to the ant, you sluggard!” Then you hear the prophet Isaiah preaching to sleeping Israel, “Arise, shine, for thy light has come!”

Then you meet the apostle Paul exhorting the church in Corinth telling them to “Awake unto righteousness.” Paul addresses the Ephesian church, “Awake thou that sleepest . . .” Paul joins himself to the Thessalonians and he says to them, “let us not sleep as others . . .” Or again you find in the letter to the church at Sardis, in the opening chapters of the book of Revelation, the Lord Jesus passing this verdict on the congregation that it had a name that it was alive, but it actually was dead.

Prophet Awuni said all these references tell us one thing, that it is possible that one can be a true believer, even a minister called by God to preach the gospel, or that one can belong to a real gospel church, and yet become a slumbering Christian.

Prophet Awuni said all the prophets and apostles and the Lord himself both in his state of humiliation and exaltation make that danger perilously clear. But what is distinctive about these exhortations is that we are held responsible by God for our condition.

In other words “we cannot blame God that we have been slumbering. The fault is not the Lord’s”, he said.

Prophet Awuni said Christians deserve to enjoy the blessings of life but they can only do so when they wake from their slumber.

The Brong-Ahafo Territorial Head of the Christ Apostolic Church, Apostle Dr William Ofosu Asante, urged Christians to hold on the faith in the lord.

The Territorial Apostle said Christians must press forward for the prize of the high calling.

He said Christians can achieve all the good things in life through faith and therefore asked the congregation to be determined, focused and prayerful as Christians to live meaningful lives to the glory of God.

The Sunyani Area Head of the CAC, Rev. David Biney, said the prayer session at Bamire is a measure to keep the congregation in line with one of the cardinal activities of the Christian.

He urged the congregation to constantly pray to overcome all hindrances. Rev Biney said prayer comes with many benefits for the Christians and must be taken seriously.

He said prayer is an opportunity to spend time with God. “To really understand the heart of God, you need to pray. Talking with God develops a deeper relationship with Him”, he said.

Rev Biney said prayer brings light to darkness.“Our prayers are fighting against spiritual battles that linger in dark places. The power of prayer is so great it has the power to defeat the devil and his power over us”, he said.

The Sunyani Area Pastor said the devil wants to destroy us, but God wants to bring us closer to Him and prayer is our tool to win that battle. “Prayer gives us the strength and the faith to finish the race victorious”, he said

He said prayer Changes us because when we spend time with God. “The more time we spend with Him, the more we are like Him. Our habits and lifestyles change”.

Rev Biney said prayer brings protection just for the asking. Christians, therefore, need to pray for protection for our loved ones every day. “Pray for loved ones by name, one by one.

He said prayer ensure breakthroughs in life, explaining that sometimes we are faced with devastating circumstances and feel we have nowhere to turn.

According to him, it’s at that point we should pray, although there should have plenty of prayers beforehand, too.

Rev Biney said the prayer session is open to all Christians in the region and beyond.
