USA-Ghana Friendly Match: I Didn’t Know What Came Into My Mind To Kick The Penalty—Asamoah Gyan

Captain of the Black Stars of Ghana, Asamoah Gyan has revealed
why he kicked the penalty when his side played against USA in a friendly
encounter on July 1.

Asamoah Gyan who vowed not to take penalty kicks for Ghana
again based on an advice his late mother gave to him—defied the advice to kick
the penalty which was missed.
Speaking to Ghana Television’s Kwabena Yeboah, the
31-year-old footballer said:
“I did not know what came into my mind to kick the penalty…but
I wanted to break the jinx. Great players all over the world do miss penalties,”
Gyan said in an interview which was monitored by the News Hunter Magazine.
He added: “It is a challenge for me to take penalties but I will
continue to take it.”

The United States men’s national soccer team won 2-1 over
Ghana in the international friendly which took place at the Pratt and Whitney
Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday, July 1,
2017.
