Brong Ahafo record 3,175 fire outbreaks from 2011 to 2016

3,175 fire outbreaks were recorded in the Brong Ahafo Region from the
year 2011 to 2016 according to statistics.

Brong Ahafo Regional Fire Commander, DCFO Tony Gomez speaking at a
launch of home fire safety certification project, dubbed: ‘Dumgya’
said the experience of such incident in the region was terrible.

“Report from the Population and Housing Census PHC (2010) of the Ghana
Statistical Service indicate that the BrongAhafo region has a total
household population of 2,265,458 with 331,967 numbers of houses
within the region.

Statistics has shown that, the region recorded a total of 3,175 fire
outbreaks from 2011 to 2016, out of which those emanating from
individuals and private homes accounted for 1,334 constituting 42% of
the total fire outbreaks within the period under review, closely
followed by bushfires with a total number of 797 incidents
representing 25% within the stipulated period with other fires
recording 33% (i.e Institutional, Commercial, Vehicular, Industrial,
Electrical, etc)”  DCFO Tony Gomez disclosed.

He added:  “The Breakdowns per clearly indicates that in the year
2011, domestic fires were pegged at 143 representing 48% of the total
fire outbreaks recorded whiles its highest counterpart bushfire
accounted for 53 representing 18%”.

The Program was themed: “Ensuring Effective Home Fire Safety
Certification And Practices”.
