Ghanaian singer-songwriter, Krymi has attributed a major turning point in his career to his hit song “Dede,” which was released in 2018.

In an interview with Sammy Flex on CTV which was monitored by Newshuntermag.com, Krymi revealed that the song led to his first-ever plane trip, taking him to London. His first award also came through the song.

“[It] was the song that made me travel the first time…This was the song that gave me my first award – Ghana Music Awards UK,” he said.

Krymi further acknowledged the song’s impact on his fanbase and how people appreciated his voice and songwriting skills through it.

“This was the song that brought so many people to Krymi, and when I say people, I am talking about the fans that have core love for an artiste,” he noted.

The guitarist shared that he composed “Dede” while residing in his aunt’s basement in Accra.

Feeling the pressure from his boss Kaywa to create a hit song, he prayed for inspiration while playing his guitar.

He clarified that the song is not about a specific woman but that the chosen name “Dede” sounded indigenous and fit the song’s concept. He aimed for a simple chorus that would resonate with a broad audience, similar to other successful songs at the time.

“I wanted my chorus to be as simple as possible because I realized, at the time, the songs that were reigning had very simple choruses, so I was like, you know what, let me also get a very simple chorus that everybody can sing along and it would still move with the progression and would be nice,” he added.
