Accra submerged; 100 plus dead

More than a hundred Ghanaians have died in an explosion at a fuel

station near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

A large number of the victims were seeking refuge at the fuel station

when the explosion occurred.

The 37-Military Hospital says it canno longer take any more bodies.

President John Mahama is currently at the burnt Goil filling station,

together with the Mayor ofAccra and the Member of Parliament for

Klottey Korle, Nii Armah Ashittey assessing the situation.

Many parts of the capital, Accra, have been completely submerged after

hours of torrential rains, Wednesday left many roads impassable and

residents homeless.

The rain began around 5:30pm andstopped at approximately 9:30 but left

in its wake a disaster of unimaginable proportions.

Many houses have been Inundatedby the water with residents climbing on

roof tops in a desperate attempt to save their lives.Their properties

have been washed away by the flood waters.

Residents at Malam, Kaneshi, Spintex, Alajo Shiashi, La Alajo are

mourning the great loss that came with floods.

The Multimedia offices are bleeding with calls from desperateresidents

seeking assistance from the National Disaster ManagementOrganisation

NADMO.

Major roads across the capital havebeen left unmotorable.Teshie Nugua,

Kaneshie, the N1 have been affected.

Myjoyonline.com has learnt that even the street in front of the seatof

government has not been spared the wrath of the torrential rain.

Cars have stuck in the flood waters.
