People Need Thought-Provoking Sermons – Rev Mrs Quainoo

The Head Pastor of the Revival Life Youth Church at Gyinyase in Kumasi, Rev Mrs Linda Quainoo, has observed that people want to hear thought-provoking sermons on Sundays because they have a right to this.

Against this backdrop, she has resolved to remain in touch with the Holy Spirit as a faithful servant of the Lord to give priority to preparing quality sermons and delivering them effectively.

Speaking to Sunyani based Space FM moments after her ordination as a Reverend Minister of the Gospel, after pastoring successfully for over ten years, Rev Mrs Quainoo noted that the hour of worship is the best opportunity in the week to touch the largest number of members and it should receive priority at all times.

She noted that some people expect to hear sermons to compete with celebrity television preachers for entertainment value, but according to her, people should rather hear messages thoroughly biblical, consistent with the teachings of the Lord Jesus.

Therefore, as a reverend minister, she should know the word and work at knowing it better. “Even if the minister has not studied Greek or Hebrew, study helps are available and great commentaries easily accessed. With every seminary offering everywhere these days, the minister has almost no excuse for not being a bible scholar”, she said.

She, however, noted that the congregation should not expect every sermon to be at a high level of scholarship.  “The typical congregation is made up of children, youth, parents and seniors, the highly educated and the less educated, singles and married, rich and poor. What touches one often misses another. Therefore, not every sermon will be equally relevant to each person”, Rev. Mrs Quainoo said.

Rev Mrs Quainoo said pastors are to do well to stay attuned to incidents, news events, conversations, anything and everything happening around them, that could sharpen the impact of the upcoming sermon.

This, according to her, is so because, even if what the congregation is hearing is the traditional message on a subject they are well-familiar with, worshipers want it fresh and relevant to their lives.
Rev Mrs Quainoo said people want their pastor to be a person of prayer and they will be asking for intercession for their own needs and concerns, but they also need confidence that the preacher is living in the power of the Holy Spirit.

“As a minister of God in the Revival Life Outreach Church, we need to pray without ceasing to make the necessary impact”, she said,  but cautioned that church members do not have a right to check out a pastor’s prayer life since this is a matter between the minister and the Lord.

Rev Mrs Quainoo said pastors must work to be strong, disciplined, and yield to the Lord. To do this, according to her, the wise pastor will have a couple of mentors to counsel him or her and will enlist a few prayer warriors to intercede on their behalf regularly.

However, as a rule, church members do not have to inquire too much about the goings-on in the pastor’s home, or about the relationship of the pastor to their spouses, with the exception being when realistic questions arise about the minister’s behaviour. She asked the church to pray for their ministers, love and support as well as encourage them.

The 41-year-old Rev Mrs Quainoo, (Linda Osei Akoto), is an Assistant Director 1at the Ghana Education Service,(GES), an English teacher and the Guidance and Counselling Coordinator at the Kumasi High School in the Ashanti Region. She had her primary education at the Bagabaga Primary School in Tamale, then had her secondary education at the Ghana Secondary School also in Tamale from form one to form three and completed at the Sunyani Senior High School, (SUSEC). Rev Mrs Quainoo had her Teachers Certificate ‘A’ from the St Joseph College of Education, (JOSCO) Bechem in 1996 and proceeded to the University of Education for her first degree and later to the University of Ghana, Legon for her second degree. In 2007, she graduated from the Harvest Bible Training College, the theological arm of the Revival Life Outreach Church in Kumasi. She was the associate pastor for two years before ordaining as a full-time pastor in the church.

She is also a part-time lecturer at the Ghana Baptist University College in Kumasi.
Rev Mrs Quainoo is married to Mr Emmanuel Quainoo with three children and loves good gospel music, encouraging people and praying.
