The Techiman North District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Peter Mensah, has told Suncity Radio that all things being well, a spices factory would take off in May, 2018, at Tuobodom, the district capital, under the government’s One District, One Factory Programme.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Trade and Industry through the GCB Bank Limited, has made available, a facility of $2.2m for the project, to be undertaken by the contractor, NAFAMO Company.
Mr Mensah further disclosed that an amount of Ghc 2m has been earmarked for the provision of access roads, water and electricity at the production site, where spices like pepper, ginger, tomatoes and garden eggs would be processed.
The DCE said 50 acres of land has been acquired and would be distributed free of charge to interested persons ready to go into the cultivation of the spices, whilst an additional 150 acres of land would also be made available for outgrowers, who would be supplied with imputs and funds, so that there will always be raw materials to feed the factory.
“We shall also take advantage of our neighbours in the Tano North and South Districts who are indigenous pepper, tomato, ginger and other vegetable growers, for regular supply of raw materials to feed the factory,” he stated.

Mr Mensah urged District Assemblies and Chiefs in the country, to be proactive and release lands for government to effectively implement the One District, One Factory programme, to make meaningful impact on the Ghanaian economy.
