Kumawood Is Facing Challenges, But Not Dead – Bill Asamoah Makes A U-Turn

Ghanaian actor, Bill Asamoah has stated that an industry like the film industry can not collapse.

Speaking in an interview with Melvina Frimpong Manso on Suncity 97.1 FM’s Showbiz 971 in Sunyani, Bill Asamoah said the Kumawood Industry is facing challenges, but not dead as it was reported earlier by somemedia outlets.

He cited picture, sound quality and other things which make the work of producers incomplete.

According to him, it is a non-starter for filmmakers to rely on VCDs. He said that the move is outmoded and they now have to use modern approaches to market and distribute their works.

Bill Asamoah, who is the President of the Kumasi chapter of the Actors Guild advised filmmakers to source for funds, which will enable them to do research which will help the industry.

He charged all industry players to welcome constructive criticisms.

Bill lamented poor marketing and distribution of Ghanaian movies. He disclosed that a lot of people are asking him why they are not coming out with new movies.

“How do our movies get to the consumer?” he queried.

“In fact, we have a lot of challenges. I received a maximum of three scripts in 2015-2016 but things have changed now,” Bill opened up.

He added that FIPAG will advocate for the passage and enforcement of the film act.
