Ghanaian hip-life artiste, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie has lauded the late Ebony Reigns for her achievement of inspiring women with her music.

The 29-year-old rapper posited that whatever Ebony did, was a strategy to sell her craft to people.

“The good thing is she is actually using that in a positive light. She is empowering women. She is using some of the music to inspire as well,” expressed Sarkodie to Akosua Konadu, host of Talk show ‘The Hard Truth.’

“I think it is art and it is business. That’s her strategy and that’s what works for her. People tend to miss the message of what artists stand for, what they are trying to do,” he stated.

Ebony was discovered by musician and entrepreneur Bullet from Ruff n Smooth and was signed to his Ruff Town record label. She came out with her first single, “Dancefloor”, in December 2015, with a video and audio release.

The song became a radio hit, landing her a nomination for the “unsung” category at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards.

In March 2016 Ebony released her major hit single “Kupe”. She was signed to Ruff Town Records and Midas Touch Inc.

In April 2017, Ebony was arrested for “indecent exposure” for exposing her breast while wearing a mini-skirt at a passport office in Accra as she attempted to travel to Tokyo for her concert

Ebony Reigns passed on a week before her 21st birthday, alongside soldier Atsu Vondee and her assistant and longtime friend Francisca Yaa Nkansah Kuri.

She was killed in a traffic collision on 8 February 2018 while returning from Sunyani to Accra after a visit to her mother.
