The man at the center stage of the Abronye attack, Jafaru
Yakubu has denied attacking the Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of NPP, Kwame
Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC.

Speaking in an interview with Nana KAS on Suncity 97.1 FM’s
Morning Drive, Jafaru Yakubu said he is shocked about the incident.
“I am shocked that Abronye is accusing me of attacking him
in the media. Will I attack him with a metal because he is a grass cutter?” he
queried.
“I wasn’t there when the incident occurred. But the NPP
treasurer for Atebubu told me it was some Zongo boys who came there to make
noise about Abronye not retracting his statement made against the Regional
Chief Imam. I left the place after I greeted him [Abronye] before the incident
occurred. I didn’t know that he was attacked. It was the constituency treasurer that I called after I heard about it. I was very angry when I heard about it,”
he added.
Jafaru swore that he has never confronted Abronye on any
issue concerning the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh.
According to him, he only advised Abronye DC to retract a
statement he made about the Brong Ahafo Regional Chief Imam—which was
demeaning.
“What happened was about the Regional Chief Imam. He brought
the image of the chief imam into disrepute.
He said in the media that Hon. Eric Opoku bought coca cola for the Imam
of which he added some cash. Why is he saying that of the Muslims and not that
of the Christians…or Eric Opoku did not made any donations at the various
Churches? “Jafaru enunciated.
“Already people think NPP don’t like Northerners…so I
advised Abronye to retract that statement.
I told him we cannot campaign in 2020 if he does not retract the statement
because we know what the Zongo community is saying about it. I have said a lot
about these issues. I reechoed it when we met at Accra. I even asked whether he
will contest for the position as the Regional Organizer and he said no…and I
encouraged him to contest again because we will campaign for him,” he
explained.
Jafaru Yakubu said he would have visited Abronye DC at the hospital
if not the demise of his father.
