The District Police Commander of Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region, Superintendent Washinton D. Foli has revealed that crime rate is on the increase within the municipality.

According to him, it is necessary for authorities and all stakeholders to come together and enforce a law to curb this menace which is caused by high alcoholic intake by the youth.

“The District Police Command has observed the ascendancy of crime in the community, especially assault and threat of death. It is our concern to put an end to this issue. In view of all these, I am appealing to the stakeholders, the Parents, Nananom and the newly nominated or appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to come together with the police and put a legislative instrument (LI) to control this situation.

“ We have realized that the youth are this days involved or engaged in heavy alcohol drinking…after drinking then they attack one another, assaulting here and there, threat of death and threat of arm being issued. It is not the best because if they should be put before court, the cost will go to the parents and we do not want the students to get in such a situation which would jeopardize or endanger their future,” he disclosed.

Superintendent Washinton D. Foli added: “We want to take this opportunity and appeal to their parents to talk to them since their future is in their own hands. During patrol you will see these children under the age of eighteen (18) patronizing drinking spots and night clubs at ouch times.

“It is worrying because if you decide to act and put these cases before court, opinion leaders will come in begging and if you refuse then they begin to tag you as a bad person. Our society is not safe if we do not come together to pass a law.”
