Brong Ahafo Gospel Musicians Needs Rebranding—Dada Thick

Sunyani-based highlife artiste, Akwasi Amankwaa Apam, popularly known as Dada Thick has called on Brong Ahafo Gospel musicians to re-brand their image.

He bewailed on how Brong Ahafo gospel musicians have denigrated themselves –and using other gospel musicians in other places as an idol by helping them selling their brands—whereby they care less about their own brand and its success.

“There are so many gospel musicians in Brong Ahafo who have composed their own songs but I have notice that most of these musicians do not perform their own songs whenever they get opportunity to perform at events. They are keen to perform songs from other artistes which are already enjoying airplay,” he told Mr. Lattus on The Chart Show on Sunyani-based J.life FM.

“I think performing at any program is an opportunity to showcase what you have but that is not what I see in this region.

 “Yes, they sing all right—but if we say the word artiste, I don’t think we have any gospel artiste here. At the end of the day you’ve spend money to work on your songs at the studio so why is it so difficult to for you to promote it afterward,” he asserted.

Dada Thick remarked that many people don’t understand what Kofi Gyan’s ‘Yoboyoo Sotoyo’ entails but they were singing along.

He is currently working his upcoming track which is dedicated to his mother titled ‘Ante Yaa Ba’ after he released Konogo Kaya, Onipa Awieye and Ensaa Bode3 some years ago.

Dada Thick told the News Hunter Magazine in June last year that he was influenced by a distinctive form of highlife music created by George Darko, Lee Duodo and Charles Amoah—who are the pioneers of “Burger-Highlife” in Ghana.
