Death Toll Rises to 20 in Indonesian Landslide

Indonesian rescuers are still searching for more than 80 people
missing after a mudslide triggered by torrential rains buried a
village Friday.

Officials said that as of Sunday, the death toll in Jemblung village
in Banjarnegara district of Central Java province stood at 20, with 88
people missing.

The national disaster agency said 15 people had been rescued. Eleven
of those had to be hospitalized with serious injuries.

The agency said hundreds of people, including police, soldiers and
residents have been digging through the debris with their bare hands,
shovels and hoes searching for the missing.

President Joko Widodo was traveling to the district Sunday to meet
with survivors and residents who were evacuated to temporary shelters.

More rain Saturday hampered rescue efforts. Some heavy equipment has
been brought in to help with the search.

The rainy season has begun in Indonesia, a time when landslides
triggered by heavy downfalls and floods are common.
